CASTING APP

I use the paid version of Podcast Addict for Android to download and listen to podcasts. Available at the Play store. 

Easy enough to search through and download or stream popular podcasts  organized by category, including hits from iTunes. It provides a lot of options organized within quite a few menus (ex: Car mode, update frequency, playback). However, the app's design makes it easy to ignore features you don't care about.

I appreciate the sensitive playback speed control function. You can incrementally nudge the dial forward or back in .1x increments up to 5.0x the original playback speed. When your ear is attuned to a .1x increment, you can nudge up the playback speed. Soon, 2x playback of a podcast is as easy to listen to as the original. Great for everything but: music; unfamiliar languages and accents; or complicated new jargon for which you don't have any personal reference.

Podcast Addict also provides an OPML file as part of its backup/restore function. This made it very easy for me to scrape the information I needed for this post. Also good for porting your podcasts to another device. OPML files are also used by RSS feeds. In fact, Podcasts are built off the code for RSS feeds.
